I don't have the typical, "I've always dreamed of being a photographer" story like most. It took me awhile to discover my passion for photography. Growing up I was a creative at heart, and loved drawing, painting, and writing stories. I fell in love with nature and the outdoors at a very young age and spent most of my days exploring the woods, capturing tadpoles, doing science experiments, visiting the local horse farm, and spending every waking hour outside. However, I somehow managed to leave my creative self behind as I grew up, went to college, got a degree in communications, moved to NYC and started work at a large corporation right in Times Square. I then spent the next 6 years in an industry, where I didn't fit in. I tried so hard to be happy and enjoy life, switching jobs multiple times, moving to different cities, but deep down I knew something wasn't right. I knew the corporate world wasn't for me, I just didn't know how to escape it. That was until six years ago when my husband bought me a digital camera, and just like that, I was reunited with my creative self, and my oh my did that reunion feel good! I finally felt like I was myself again, I finally figured out what was missing, and most importantly, I finally found my purpose.

I took my camera everywhere with me capturing nature and all of God's beautiful creation! I have always been in awe of nature and am drawn to breathtaking sceneries. So having the ability to freeze a moment that took my breath away, and be able to view that image later that night, week, or month and be able to relive and feel the same emotions I felt when I was there in person is what initially drew me into photography. After discovering this appreciation for photography and how impactful it can be in preserving some of the most precious memories, I knew I wanted to use this gift to impact other people's lives, and so I began photographing people.

Fast forward a few years, and here I am, a full time wedding and family photographer living in the gorgeous countryside of Tennessee with my amazing husband, our two year old son and our two puppy children. I'm no longer stuck in the concrete jungle living my "corporate nightmare." I wake up to birds chirping, fresh air, and a smile on my face. Never in a million years would I have imagined that a generous gift from my husband would lead to a passion for photography and a career that allows me to do something I love every day. This life I'm living has far surpassed any "dream" I could have ever had, and I thank God every day for all the blessings he has graciously poured down into my life. Without Him, none of this would have ever been possible!

Meet Melissa

LOVER OF nature, animals, AND all things country

Meet my son. He made me a mom in May 2020 and my life will never be the same! He brings so much joy to me and my husband's lives and watching him grow up has only deepened my love for photography. I've come to appreciate, way more than I ever did before, how precious the simple moments are, and how important it is to document them.

My Baby! Meet Brooks

We have two Rhodesian Ridgebacks. This is Monty! He's 5 years old, and seriously the sweetest dog you could ever meet! He came into our lives at just 9 weeks old, and my husband and I have been smitten ever since. He is the definition of a gentle giant; so sweet and loving. He's seriously the perfect dog. I call him our golden child! Scroll to the right to meet his sister!

Then there's Shae. She's 3.5 years old! Although, I'm pretty sure no matter how old she gets she is ALWAYS going to act like a puppy. We've had her since she was 13 weeks, and she is the definition of Mayhem. She's legitimately crazy. So. Much. Energy. Could play for hours. And such a funny personality! She keeps us entertained that's for sure.

As much as I love summer, when it comes to an end I am the happiest person alive. There's just something about fall that makes my heart skip a beat. Crisp air, beautiful colors, apple picking, flannel shirts, leggings and boots; pretty much my heaven on earth!

Crisp, fall days

I am a hoarder when it comes to handwritten notes. Whether it's a beautiful hallmark card with a personal note inside or a ripped up piece of paper with some sweet words on it, I will save it. I am such a simple person when it comes to things that make me happy, and heartfelt, kind words are at the top of my list.

I cannot properly put into words my love for farms. There is just something about them that puts me at absolute peace. I sometimes think I should've been born somewhere in Kentucky, because living on a farm is a dream of mine. Even the smell of farms makes me so happy (weird I know)! It's just the perfect combination of two things I love dearly, animals and nature.

Some people can't live without their coffee in the morning, I can't live without my chai tea. My mornings just don't seem right when I can't sit down with a brewing cup of chai, with one teaspoon of agave and a splash of almond milk. It's a daily necessity for me!

I am slightly obsessed with cute notebooks and journals. I also happen to be obsessed with TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Homegoods, who all have a large array of journals; so the combination of these two contribute to my never ending collection! I've always loved to write, so sitting down with a pen in hand and a cute journal to jot down my thoughts in makes me so happy!

Whether it's canoeing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, or just simply going for a run, I LOVE being outside. Any activity that involves being outdoors is right up my alley. I love staying active, and could stay outside all day long if I could. I'm a major sun worshipper and if it's sunny there's nothing better than working out while getting my tan on!
